Expanding Support in Oldham County

Jun 3
1 min read

The Backwards Backpack recently reached an exciting milestone by making its first delivery to Oldham County. We were honored to provide 13 sensory support backpacks to Oldham County EMS and Baptist Health, helping equip first responders and healthcare professionals with resources designed to support children with sensory needs.

These backpacks are now available to assist during emergency and medical situations, helping create calmer, safer, and more positive interactions for children and families when support is needed most.

We are grateful for the partnership of Oldham County EMS and Baptist Health and proud to continue expanding our mission into new communities across Kentucky. Together, we are building a more inclusive and supportive environment for children with autism and sensory sensitivities.

ABOUT US

The Backwards Backpack was founded in 2024 by Shelby County parents Aaron and Ashlea Garofola after experiencing firsthand how overwhelming emergency situations can be for children with autism and sensory needs.

As parents of two boys on the spectrum, including one who is severely autistic, we know that moments of crisis require more than quick response. They require understanding, preparation and the right tools.

From those experiences, The Backwards Backpack was created to equip first responders with sensory support tools that help bring calm during emergencies and protect children when they need it most.
